the year party
things are going well in the land of squid and soju. here are some pictures from the night of the ivy school new year's party, or, as mr. choi refers to it, "the year party."
our sushi dinner. i can safely say that i've never eaten so much unidentified raw fish in my life, and likely never will again.
after the dinner, we went to a sweet bar called "garten bier." me and mr. choi took a "love shot" of our triple beers. how romantic!
me and ms. shin, my personal korean tutor/english student. she advised me to make a "small face" for this picture. this is what i imagined a "small face" to be. looking at hers, i guess i was a little off. another bad translation.note: i cut my own hair. and couldn't resist an opportunity to publicly pat myself on the back. i'm only human.
the hook-up
at long last, i've hooked up my webcam and set up a skype account. this means that i can call my homies for incredibly cheap without having to use a cursed cumbersome phone card. at some point (once i can figure out how to do it), i'll get a phone number for the account that'll be a 203 area code, and all o' y'all from home will be able to call me without having to rob a bank first (if you are so inclined). in addition, if you've got a webcam, you should set up a skype account as well. it's free and it's the future. thats right folks, you can listen to all the mind-blowing things i have to say while getting a load of this incredible visage, without having to pay a dime. or a 100 won, even.
the big cor
corey has finally arrived! he got here on sunday (in truth, he got to seoul on saturday night, but mr. choi had thought he was arriving sunday and thus was too drunk to pick him up, so corey had to stay in a hotel!) it's awesome having someone else from "home" here, especially one as fabulous as the big cor. he's in training this week and i believe next week, he has a full course load. his training time is less than deb's and mine was due to vacation schedules and such, so i feel for him. still, i'm sure he'll take to it just fine and it's just bangin' that he's here.
february vacation
the first week of february, we get a wednesday-friday off from work for the chinese new year.

at this time, deb and i will be travelling with mr. and mrs. choi, sandy, and patrick to hong kong and macau for a vacation. while neither of these places is a tropical paradise (much to our disbelief; i mean come on "macau"? who names a non- tropical paradise "macau"?), highlights will include warm weather and gambling. as you will see if you follow the link (or if you follow this sentence, even), macau is the "las vegas of the east." we are pumped, to say the least. all i needed were the days off; the trip is a total bonus. and it's at a good price, too. well, if you disregard the gambling, anyway.
so i believe that's all the big news. with any luck, i should be going skiing on saturday with some of the teachers from another school. i absolutely can't wait to do something different (like move around). i feel i'm going soft on all the pork, beer, and weekend laziness.
adieu!

don't lose too much at the roulette table. especially if you go halves on it with someone else and that person goes to get drinks.
Happy to see you're there--at last!
Thank goodness Jay and Kelly have this blog set up. Not crazy about the hat but that bear you're sitting with/on is pretty cute!
